RX-8 Recalls

Many people are confused about the difference between a Recall, a TSB, and a Special Program. All 3 are very similar in that they are a special set of instructions to the dealer, but there are some very important differences.

A Recall
  • has a notification sent to the current owners
  • is recorded against a VIN until it is resolved
  • never expires
  • will always be "free" to the customer
  • almost always is safety or emissions related
Do I Have any Open Recalls?
If you want to check to see if you have ay open recalls on your car, there is a central lookup source provided by the NTSA here:
https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/
All Current Recalls (Updated August 2018)

These recalls are listed as the NHTSA Recall Numbers, and each has it's own page with details as well as all official NHTSA documentation PDFs. Mazda's own documentation regarding these is hard to come by, but is included as available.

NOTE: A recall against a your year of RX-8 does NOT mean that it definitely applies to your RX-8. Each recall is specific to a given set of VINs, which may or may not include your VIN. This information is provided for anyone looking to understand the Recalls better. Use the recall lookup link above to confirm if there is or is not any recalls for your specific RX-8.

NOTE: There are multiple different Air Bag recalls from 2013 on. They cover different parts and/or different VINs. These are all a result of the Takata Air Bag Recalls. The first Air Bag related recall in 2004 (lowest in the list) is unrelated to the Takata recall.
